Project Overview
Exploring culture and values has never been so much fun! At BAPS Kids, the learning about spiritual roots is an exciting adventure! To be a part of the journey of discovery and knowledge that will stay with one for life from a young age has been a great experience.
The Problem
Over 8000 volunteers at BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha contribute to the moral, spiritual, and physcial development of children. One of the challenges faced by the BAPS Kids website was effectively defining and catering to the target audiences. While children were actively using the website, the site access primarily targeted youth activity coordinators(volunteers) and parents/ caregivers. The existing navigation system and content organization posed difficulties, hindering the website's ability to provide a seamless and engaging user experience for the intended audience.
Brand Discovery
BAPS Kids, a community initiative by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, is dedicated to nurturing young minds and creating a strong foundation for the future generation. We provide resources and guidance to parents and children, strengthening their spiritual, moral, and cultural values.

Target Audience
50%
Youth activity coordinators
Youth coordinators, aged 15-21 and primarily volunteers, play a crucial role in guiding and presenting during weekly assemblies. They introduce the website to children, engage them in fun activities, and encourage family meetups for spiritual learning and educational activities together.
20%
Kids
Once introduced to the site, kids can explore the website, read through its content, take quizzes, playpuzzles, learn their mother tongue(mainly Gujarati- Indian), and participate in joint activities with theirparents. However, one important criteria is having access to tech devices to engage with our onlineplatform.
25%
Parents/ Caregivers
After introducing the website to kids, coordinators engage with devotee parents, promoting it as an online resource for valuable lessons and teachings. They encourage parent-child bonding through exploring activities and readings for overall development.
5%
Others
Those interested in knowing or learning about Swaminarayan faith or Hindu beliefs and culture. People or donors who want to learn more about the way the BAPS Swaminarayan organization is working towards building a brighter future through child care and character development.
User Research
To gain insights into the user experience and preferences for the BAPS Kids website, I engaged with individuals who have used the platform in various capacities, including children who accessed it for learning and exploration, and previous youth coordinators who actively engaged with the website during weekly assemblies. I asked a series of targeted questions to gather valuable feedback and perspectives from these users.

-
How often did you use the BAPS Kids website during weekly assemblies, and for what purposes?
-
In your experience, how did the website assist in engaging and guiding children during the assemblies?
-
Were there any difficulties in accessing specific resources or features on the website while presenting to the children?
-
Did you access the BAPS Kids website on a mobile device? If so, what was your experience like?
-
How would you describe your experience using the BAPS Kids website?
Research Insights
Streamlined Navigation
Engaging Kids, Informative for Adults
Personalization for Individual Interests
Users encountered challenges with the website's navigation, leading to difficulty in finding specific resources or information. They suggested a more intuitive and user-friendly navigation system to enhance their browsing experience.
The volunteers/adults prioritized teaching over website design. However, many users expressed the desire for a more cohesive website that meets the needs of both children's learning and adults using the site.
Users showed interest in personalized content recommendations based on their interactions and preferences. Implementing personalized features could enhance the overall user experience and keep users more engaged.
